Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has been in development since 2017
· My Nintendo NewsNintendo has confirmed in a recent developer interview that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has been in development for the Nintendo Switch since 2017, which is when the Nintendo Switch made its worldwide debut. They started work on the new game after development had “settled down” on the charming mobile game, Miitomo. The idea of a sequel to the original Tomodachi Life game on the Nintendo Switch came about when Mr. Sakamoto- said “There’s so much that I want my Mii characters to experience, but there’s nothing more that I can do for them.” They then decided to pursue the idea of Tomodachi Life Living the Dream on the newer Nintendo Switch hardware. So, what sparked development of this all-new Tomodachi Life game?
Takahashi: I believe development started around 2017, after things had settled down on Miitomo. The producer, Sakamoto-sa, and I both have a special attachment to Tomodachi Life and have been playing the previous game on Nintendo 3DS for many years. But we’d already squeezed all we could out of that game, and Sakamoto-san said to me sadly, “There’s so much that I want my Mii characters to experience, but there’s nothing more that I can do for them.” (Laughs) So, we talked about our desire to create a new Tomodachi Life game.
