Police are hunting for a blonde woman after a four-year-old boy was left fighting for his life following a horror 'hit-and-run' crash.

The child, who remains in hospital in a 'life-threatening condition' was struck by a BMW in the Lawrence Weston area of Bristol at around 1.51pm yesterday as the vehicle swerved off the road.

Two occupants in the car fled the scene before an 18-year-old man was then arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

But a blonde woman, described as white, who is understood to have been wearing a black puffer coat, blue jeans and light-coloured shoes remains missing.

Avon and Somerset Police are describing the incident as 'shocking' and say it has 'caused concern' in the area.

A spokesman for the force said: 'A four-year-old boy remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

'An 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs remains in police custody.

'It follows a collision on Long Cross, near its junction with Kings Weston Road, shortly before 2pm.
