Moment motorist pulls out of court where he was just given driving ban

by · Mail Online

This is the shocking moment a motorist is arrested for driving home from the court where he had just been disqualified from using his car.

Footage released by Durham Constabulary shows officers tailing ironically named Steven Luck in his Range Rover, before kindly offering him a lift to Darlington Police Station - where he will spend eight weeks behind bars.

Luck had been handed a 28-month disqualification on Tuesday after a hit-and-run in May when he was three times over the drink-driving limit.

When he was apprehended by Special Constable Howells and taken into his patrol car, Luck claimed: 'I didn't know [the ban] started straight away.'

As well as his prison sentence, Luck has now been handed an increased 40-month driving ban, and ordered to pay £2,500 in fines.

On re-arresting the convicted drink driver, the officer asked, 'are you aware you've just been to court?' to which Luck responded: 'Yeah, yeah, yeah.'

The PC then said: 'And you're aware you've been disqualified.'

Luck replied: 'Yeah, yeah but I didn't know it starts straight away does it?'

The court heard that he failed to stop at the scene and was found three times over the limit when officers arrested him.

Videos released by police also show a clip from Luck's interview, where he answered 'no comment' to whether anyone else had access to his car as he stared at the floor.

The Darlington resident was free for less than half an hour between leaving court and being back in police custody.
