Take a look at the canceled online open-world version of Resident Evil Requiem
by John Papadopoulos · DSOGamingCapcom has shared a short gameplay clip from the canceled online open-world version of Resident Evil Requiem. This gameplay clip is from a really early version of the game, and it does not show much. Still, some RE fans may want to see what the game looked like in its early stages.
The game’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, said the team tried making Resident Evil 9 an online open-world game. Nakanishi said the idea was interesting and the game had some cool features. But the team realized that most Resident Evil fans didn’t want that kind of game. So, they decided to scrap those plans and focus on making a single-player game instead.
As you can see below, the gameplay clip is around 5 seconds. The clip shows a team of players shooting some zombies. We also get to see what appears to be a mini-boss (that looks similar to Nemesis, or at least that’s the vibe I got from it).
Resident Evil: Requiem will use the powerful RE Engine, and it looks amazing. This will be a single-player survival horror game. You’ll play as Grace Ashcroft, and your goal is to stay alive in a terrifying adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The devs say that with new technology and their experience, the game will have strong characters and really immersive gameplay. This new RE game aims to pull you into the story more than ever before. Players will also return to Raccoon City.
The concept for this game was “addictive fear“. Since horror is one of the most important aspects of the series, the devs wanted to make this fear factor a key feature of the gameplay. As such, Grace will learn to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
The game will be set 30 years after the missile strike on Raccoon City. As the devs noted, Resident Evil is tied to both Umbrella and Raccoon City. And that’s why they wanted to go back to the outbreak.
Earlier today, we got to see some new gameplay clips from Resident Evil Requiem. So, if you haven’t watched them, I suggest doing so. Well, that is if you are a die-hard RE fan.
Capcom will release Resident Evil Requiem on February 27th, 2026.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
