2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement: ASUU gives final strike notice to Taraba
by Hassan Muaz · The Eagle OnlineThe Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo Branch, has issued a final 14-day ultimatum to the Taraba State Government to implement outstanding provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement or face industrial action.
The union warned that it would explore all lawful measures to protect the welfare and interests of its members if the state government fails to address the outstanding issues by September 28, 2026.
In a statement signed by its Branch Chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, the union said the ultimatum took effect from September 14 and would expire on September 28.
While acknowledging the state government’s previous efforts at dialogue, ASUU said critical components of the agreement remained unimplemented and required urgent attention.
“While we acknowledge the government’s commitment to industrial harmony and dialogue, we wish to note that some key provisions of the Agreement remain outstanding and require urgent attention,” the statement said.
The union urged the government to take concrete steps towards the full implementation of the outstanding provisions before the expiration of the ultimatum.
“The union remains committed to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue, but may consider lawful measures to protect members’ interests if the issues remain unresolved after the expiration of the notice,” it said.
Mbave also called on education stakeholders to intervene and prevail on the government to act promptly in order to safeguard uninterrupted academic activities at the university.

The latest ultimatum follows an earlier 14-day strike notice issued by the union on August 13, which expired on August 26.
However, the union suspended the planned industrial action at the time to allow for the smooth conduct of the university’s combined convocation ceremonies.
The branch has now given the state government until September 28 to resolve the outstanding issues.
