Attempted kidnap: Police rescue suspect from mob lynching
by Adenle Ahmed Abiola · The Eagle OnlineOperatives of the FCT Police Command have rescued a man from an angry mob after he was allegedly caught attempting to abduct a five-year-old girl in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The suspect, identified as Bashir Usman, was reportedly attacked by the mob on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after he was accused of attempting to abduct the child in front of her residence in Angwan Lado, Kuje.
The FCT Police Command said it received a distress call at about 2:46pm reporting that an unidentified man was being assaulted by a mob over the alleged attempted abduction.
Following receipt of the report, police operatives from Kuje Division were immediately dispatched to the scene and rescued the suspect from an irate mob that was about to lynch him.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was being assaulted by the mob over allegations that he attempted to abduct a five year old child in front of her residence in Angwan Lado, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
“The suspect has been taken into protective custody, while investigations into the alleged crime is being expanded to unravel the extent of his activities and apprehend any accomplices who may be involved.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi strongly discourages members of the public from taking the law into their own hands or engaging in jungle justice.”

He said such acts are criminal and tantamount to murder under the law.
The Command enjoined parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and well-being of their children and wards.
