Police arrest two over N4m armed robbery in Bauchi

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two suspects over their alleged involvement in a case of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and armed robbery in Gadau community of the state.

The suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led investigation into an attack in which a couple were allegedly tied up while valuables worth about N4 million were stolen from their home.

Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, said the incident was reported at the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters on July 3 by a 28-year-old resident of Gadau Town, who told officers the robbery took place on June 8 at about 3 a.m.

According to the police, ‘five unknown hoodlums armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons broke into his residence.’

The police said the attackers forced open the complainant’s bedroom door, threatened him and his wife with machetes, tied them up and escaped with one Jincheng motorcycle, five Android phones, 10 sets of wrappers, N1 million in cash, one cap and three wristwatches, with the stolen property valued at about N4 million.

Abubakar said detectives immediately visited the scene and launched an intelligence-led investigation, leading to the arrest of Salisu Umar, 20, of Gadau Town, and Sadiq Shehu, 20, of Azare in Katagum Local Government Area.

He added that both suspects underwent preliminary investigation at the divisional headquarters before an identification parade was conducted.

According to the command, the complainant’s wife recognised and pointed out Sadiq Shehu as one of the persons who entered her room and forced her to open the main gate for the other accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for the arrests and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

The police chief also assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and that all those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support the fight against crime across the state.
