Osun 2026: Trump is also my president – Davido defends his appeal to US

The singer made the clarification on Tuesday during a series of exchanges on X following public criticism.
Davido initially triggered a backlash after tagging U.S. President Donald Trump on social media, appealing for the U.S. government and the international community to monitor the upcoming August 15 Osun State governorship election.
He appealed to Trump to pay attention to the situation in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, in which his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election.
He raised concerns about the possibility of tension, violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process, urging the US and the international community to closely monitor the election.
Davido also called on relevant authorities to protect voters and ensure that every vote is respected, while appealing for peace, transparency and a free and fair election.

His appeal attracted reactions on social media, with some X users criticising the singer while others supported him.
Reacting, one user, Ifedayo, also known as JIMCRUZ, trolled Davido, asking, “Is everything okay, David?”
Responding, Davido said, “So I can’t tweet my president again?”
Another X user, ÌKÀ NATION, @Wuwaika90, posted a picture of Davido and President Bola Tinubu sitting and laughing together, with the caption, “If Trump is your president, who is this?”
Davido replied, “He’s my president too; I get dual citizenship. Any problem?”
Davido, who holds Nigerian and American citizenship, is a nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and has openly supported his uncle’s bid for re-election.
