Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Season after leading the club to a third-place finish and equalling the league’s assists record.

Fernandes matched the Premier League record of 20 assists jointly held by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

The Portugal international also scored eight league goals as United secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The 31-year-old beat competition from Arsenal trio: Gabriel, David Raya, and Declan Rice, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, and Brentford forward Igor Thiago.

Fernandes also finished the campaign as the league’s leading creator after producing 132 chances, far ahead of Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who recorded 89 chances.

The award adds to an impressive season for the Manchester United captain, who earlier won the Football Writers’ Association men’s Player of the Year prize.

Fernandes also claimed Manchester United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a fifth time earlier this month.

The midfielder still has the opportunity to break the Premier League assists record outright when United face Brighton & Hove Albion in their final game of the season on Sunday.

The 21-year-old made 34 league appearances this season, including 29 starts, and scored crucial goals in major matches.

O’Reilly was particularly influential in Manchester City’s League Cup final victory over Arsenal, scoring twice in the 2-0 win.

His performances throughout the campaign earned him a place in Tuchel’s England World Cup squad.
