The Super Eagles and South Africa are both 2-0 up at half time in their ongoing World Cup qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda respectively.

While the Super Eagles are playing in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the Bafana Bafana are squaring it up in Mbombela, South Africa.

Victor Osimehn scored both goals for Nigeria in the third and 47th minute.

Four South Africa, Thelante Mbatha scored in the fifth minute, while Oswin Appolis netted the second in the 28th minute.

If the match ends this way, South Africa will be the automatic qualifier in the Group C of the Africa qualifying stage for the 2026 World Cup.

However, Nigeria stands a chance of making it to the World Cup finals through the play-off to get the 10th slot for Africa.

The four best second-placed teams will make it into the play-off.

Already, Gabon and Cameroon have taken two of the slots.

For Nigeria to get one of the four play-off slots, it must defeat Benin Republic by at least four goals.

This will be to put down Burkina Faso and DR Congo who are also playing today and stand a chance of making it to the play-off stage.

But even after qualifying from Africa, the team will still play another one from outside the continent to qualify.
