Chukwueze eyes AC Milan future under Amorim

Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze is set to fight for his place at AC Milan after returning to the club ahead of the new season under coach Ruben Amorim.

The winger has been linked with a permanent exit from the San Siro, but reports indicate he is determined to remain and impress the new manager.

Chukwueze was recently the subject of transfer talks between Milan and Turkish side Trabzonspor, but the Super Eagles forward was not interested in the move.

The Rossoneri also turned down a €15 million offer from the Turkish club.

The 26-year-old returned to Milan after Fulham decided against activating the €26 million option to make his loan move permanent.

During his spell with the Premier League club, Chukwueze scored three goals and provided four assists in 23 league appearances, forming an attacking partnership with fellow Nigerians Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.

According to reports in Italy, Amorim will decide Milan’s transfer plans for the remainder of the summer after the club spent more than €100 million on two new signings earlier in the transfer window.

Football Italia reported that Milan are still planning to strengthen their squad with the addition of a defender and a replacement for Rafael Leao.

The report also stated that Chukwueze was not included among the players expected to leave the club this summer.

“Milan want at least three more signings after committing over €100m on Gila and Ramos.

“Milan have a full agreement in place to sign centre-back Mario Gila from Lazio in a package worth €30m, including bonuses.

“It is expected that Milan will part company with some of their current first-team stars this window, Rafael Leao among them, but according to Wednesday’s reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are already thinking about potential new attacking midfielders to bring in.”

The report added that Genk midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas is currently Milan’s preferred attacking midfield target, while the club are also considering signing another left-back and a central defender.

Although Amorim has yet to make a decision on Chukwueze’s future, the Nigerian could use pre-season to earn a place in the squad for the new campaign.
