Police arrest suspected hoodlum that allegedly shot, injured three officers in Osun
by Adeola Balogun · The Eagle OnlineThe Osun State Police Command has arrested a man suspected to be among hoodlums who allegedly shot and injured three members of its Anti-Robbery and Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Osogbo.
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command’s Spokesperson made this known during the parade of criminal suspects at the police headquarters in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Ojelabi said that at about 5:30p.m. on Monday, a distress call was received by the command that hoodlums were shooting sporadically at Oke-Ijetu Area, Osogbo.
He said a team of VCRU personnel were deployed and that on getting to the scene, the hoodlums suspected to be members of a faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) started shooting at them.
He said three operatives sustained varying degree of gunshot injury during the encounter and that they were taken to the hospital where they are responding to treatment.

Ojelabi said that a suspect was apprehended at the scene and who when quizzed informed interrogators that someone called ‘Sibi’ called him that their NURTW factional leader asked them to meet at Oke-Ijetu Area, Osogbo.
He said the suspect further stated that the said ‘Sibi’ came to meet him with two pump action guns and handed over one to him. Ojelabi said the suspect was presently assisting the police in its investigation to arrest other suspects at large.
The police spokesperson added that the command equally arrested a suspected motorcycle thief and two suspected political thugs causing mayhem around Amadia Area, Osogbo.
He said that all the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigation. Ojelabi admonished residents to always give prompt and credible information that would assist in crime prevention to the security agencies.
