FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Falconets battle England’s Lionesses for quarter-final place

The Round of 16 encounter will take place at the Stadion Miejski in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, with Nigeria aiming to continue their run in the competition.
The Falconets booked their place in the knockout stages in emphatic fashion, thrashing New Caledonia 10-1 in their final Group F fixture.
Moses Aduku’s side finished second in the group behind Spain after previously losing 2-0 to the Spaniards and playing out a goalless draw with China PR.
Nigeria will again look to their attacking options, with SL Benfica forward Janet Akekoromowei among those who impressed during the victory over New Caledonia.
Winner Onajite David scored a hat-trick in the encounter, while Ramotalahi Kareem was also on the scoresheet as the Falconets produced a strong second-half display to seal qualification.
England, meanwhile, advanced to the Round of 16 after finishing third in Group B behind Brazil.
The Young Lionesses began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Canada before defeating Tanzania 5-1. They then suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brazil in their final group match.

England ultimately finished above Canada on goals scored after both teams ended the group stage level on points.
Thursday’s encounter therefore presents both sides with a direct route into the quarter-finals, with the winner advancing to the last eight.
If Nigeria progress, the Falconets will face either hosts Poland or Colombia in the quarter-finals.
