UCL: Barcelona report PSG to UEFA over controversial Champions League tifo
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineBarcelona have reported Paris Saint-Germain to UEFA over a controversial banner displayed by the French club’s supporters before Tuesday’s Champions League encounter, which PSG won 4-2.
The banner was unveiled by supporters behind one of the goals at Parc des Princes as the players entered the pitch before kick-off.
It depicted a masked figure carrying a chainsaw and destroying Barcelona’s club crest, alongside the words: “Massacre, Parisian style.”
Supporters also used pyrotechnics to recreate sparks from the chainsaw as it appeared to cut through the Barcelona badge.
The imagery was described as “overly aggressive and offensive”, prompting Barcelona to report the incident to UEFA.
On the pitch, PSG secured a 4-2 victory in an entertaining encounter between two of Europe’s in-form sides.
Desiré Douré, Lucas Hernández, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz scored for the French champions, who extended their winning start in the Champions League to three matches.
Barcelona twice fought back through Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal but eventually suffered their first defeat of the season, ending their 11-match winning streak.
