Manchester City have renamed the North Stand at the Etihad Stadium as the “Pep Guardiola Stand” in honour of the club’s outgoing manager.

The Premier League champions announced the decision on Thursday as part of tributes marking Guardiola’s final days in charge after confirming he will step down at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The newly expanded stand will officially open to supporters on Sunday during Guardiola’s final match as Manchester City manager against Aston Villa.

The redevelopment project, reportedly worth £300 million, added more than 7,000 seats to the stadium and increased the Etihad’s overall capacity to over 61,000.

The stand will also become the centrepiece of a newly developed entertainment district around the stadium.

The area includes a 401-room hotel, a revamped Manchester City museum, retail outlets and a 3,000-capacity fan zone known as Medlock Square.

Manchester City also confirmed plans to erect a permanent statue of Guardiola near the approach leading to the stand.

The tribute comes at the end of a historic decade under the Spanish manager, who transformed Manchester City into one of Europe’s dominant clubs.

Guardiola arrived at City in 2016 and went on to win 20 major trophies during his 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

His achievements include six Premier League titles and Manchester City’s first UEFA Champions League crown.

The Spaniard also redefined the club’s style of play and oversaw one of the most successful periods in English football history.

Sunday’s match against Aston Villa is expected to attract emotional scenes as supporters bid farewell to the manager widely regarded as the greatest in Manchester City’s history.
