Dikko, Olopade laud Super Eagles’ AFCON performance
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineThe Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, and its Director General, Bukola Olopade, have lauded Nigeria’s Super Eagles on their performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The two men were quoted to have spoken in a statement issued by Kehinde Ajayi, the Director of Press of the Commission.
The administrators noted that the team’s resilient campaign reflected the spirit of a proud footballing nation.
On Saturday, Nigeria defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties to secure a bronze medal finish after regulation time ended in a barren draw at the Stade Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
Dikko praised the team for their character, discipline, and brand of football displayed throughout the tournament.
He said: “This bronze medal represents far more than a podium finish.
“It speaks to the resilience, character and belief of this Super Eagles team.
“After a difficult loss against Morocco, they responded with discipline, unity and courage, values that define Nigerian football and the Nigerian spirit.
“Beyond the result, Nigerians are proud of the identity and attractive style of football the team displayed.
“It showed growth, tactical maturity and a renewed commitment to excellence.”

On his part, Olopade also lauded the players and technical crew for their commitment and professionalism throughout the tournament.
He said: “This is a team that gave Nigerians hope, excitement and pride.
“Winning the bronze medal against a strong Egyptian side and doing so with composure under pressure shows mental strength of the players and quality of preparation by the technical crew.
“The collective effort of the squad reflects a team that believes in itself and in the future of Nigerian football.”
