Man City titles ‘absolutely not’ tainted, says Maresca
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineManchester City head coach Enzo Maresca has rejected suggestions that the club’s trophies are tainted by its Premier League financial rules case, insisting he completely trusts the club’s leadership and expects it to win its appeal.
Maresca, who served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant during City’s historic Treble-winning 2022-23 season, defended the club’s achievements amid renewed scrutiny following an independent commission’s findings that City were guilty of 114 of 115 charges relating to alleged financial breaches.
The club has denied wrongdoing and launched an appeal against the findings, with sanctions yet to be determined.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Maresca acknowledged the attention surrounding the case but said he would not be drawn into further debate while the legal process remained ongoing.
He said: “I understand the reason why most of you are here, but the only thing I can say is something I already said.
“There is a process ongoing, and in this moment I completely trust the club. This is what I can say about that.”
The Italian confirmed that he had spoken with the club’s hierarchy and expressed confidence in its appeal.
“I spoke with the club, for sure. We all trust,” Maresca stated.
“The right moment to speak about that is when we win that appeal.”
He also admitted that he had not personally studied the Premier League’s written findings, explaining that his priority remained football.

“I probably should,” he said. “I don’t understand many things about many things. I focus on what I can control, the football side.”
Maresca was particularly emphatic when asked whether City’s Treble-winning achievements during the 2022-23 campaign had been tarnished by the allegations.
“Absolutely not. The last time I was here was the treble season.
“I know the effort from the players, the club, the manager at that time, I know exactly the effort the club put to achieve that target. I don’t have any doubt about that,” he said.
The City manager also reaffirmed his confidence in the club’s leadership, expressing pride in his position and his decision to join the Etihad outfit.
“I trust the club because I trust the people. This is the reason why I joined. There is not another club in the world where I would like to be.
“I am very happy to be here, very proud, I have said many times. I completely trust the club, in this moment, in the future, always. Thank you.”
