Breaking: Maguire jailed 15 months after Greece retrial
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineManchester United defender Harry Maguire has been handed a 15-month suspended prison sentence by a Greek court over an incident in Mykonos in August 2020.
The England international faced allegations of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery following a fight involving his family outside a bar.
The court found Maguire guilty on all three counts.
The suspended sentence replaces an earlier 21-month sentence issued in the case, while the fine that accompanied the original ruling has now been removed.
Maguire has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

According to Sky Sports News, the defender’s legal team plans to appeal the verdict to the Greek Supreme Court in an attempt to clear his name.
The conviction marks the second time he has been found guilty over the incident, although a previous ruling had been nullified under Greek law after a retrial was granted.
The retrial itself had been postponed four times, with the most recent delay in October 2025 after court documents were not translated into English.
Sky Sports News also confirmed that only one of the three police witnesses appeared in court during the proceedings.
Lawyers in Greece said the other two officers were not required to attend because they had already submitted written statements.
The prosecution lawyer in the case has rejected claims of corruption in the legal process that resulted in the guilty verdict and suspended sentence.
Maguire was not present for the latest hearing and was preparing for Manchester United’s Premier League match against Newcastle.
