Nigeria keep 26th place as Argentina retain world top spot in latest FIFA rankings + List

World champions Argentina have retained their position as the highest-ranked team in world football in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

The South American giants remain at the top of the standings following a series of strong performances in recent international matches as attention turns to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Spain maintained second place after recording a draw and a victory in their latest fixtures, while France occupy third position despite suffering a defeat before recovering with subsequent wins.

England and Portugal complete the top five, with Brazil placed sixth.

Nigeria remained 26th in the world, holding on to their position after a mixed run of results in recent outings.

The Super Eagles enjoyed success at the Unity Cup in London, where they recorded victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica.

However, the three-time African champions were later held to a 2-2 draw by Poland before losing 2-1 to Portugal in an international friendly.

Morocco continue to lead the African continent in the rankings and are placed seventh globally.

The Atlas Lions remain Africa’s highest-ranked team, extending the progress that has seen them establish themselves among the world’s elite sides.

The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany occupy the remaining places in the top 10.

The latest rankings arrive as teams finalise preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The tournament, expanded to 48 teams, is expected to be the biggest World Cup in FIFA history.
