The Pitt Season 3 Trailer: The Best Medical Show Ever Sticks To Its Annual Schedule
by Ben Pearson · /FilmWe're just over halfway through 2026, but we already have a reason to look forward to 2027: "The Pitt" is sticking to its impressive annual schedule, joining Apple TV's "Slow Horses" as one of the most consistent (and consistently great) shows of the modern era. No three year gaps between seasons here. Just Dr. Robby (who did NOT die!) and a whole bunch of emergency department chaos coming our way in January of 2027.
The Emmy-winning juggernaut series is returning for its third season, and the first trailer gives us glimpses of Robby (Noah Wyle), Nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Dr. Whitaker (Gerran Howell), Dr. King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi), Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. Javadi (Shabana Azeez), Dr. Ellis (Ayesha Harris), and fan favorite Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy). Let's dig in and see what we can glean.
Dr. Robby returns to the unending chaos of The Pitt
There's been a growing section of the fandom who wants to see a "night shift" spin-off series focusing on Dr. Abbot and his squad, and creator R. Scott Gemmill, producer John Wells, and HBO Max's marketing department clearly know all about that, because this trailer kicks off with a nod to those folks by beginning with the so-called "nightcrawlers." Whether we actually get a meaningful amount of time with these "The Pitt" characters this season remains to be seen, but it would be interesting if the show held Dr. Robby's arrival until a few episodes in. The ensemble here is strong enough that the other actors would easily be able to carry the series for a bit without him.
There are also several shots of out-of-context action that have me riveted: a guy smashing his bloody face into a glass window, a patient with a bag over his head, and another patient screaming as he's being transported through the hallway. It's a reminder of the challenges that cinematographer Joanna Coelho and her team have to overcome to make this show look so seamless.
And while I don't want to read too much into a teaser trailer, the fact that it ends with Langdon (the fallen Golden Boy trying to make amends) and Robby (his former mentor, with that relationship strained because of Langdon's earlier mistakes) together in a quiet moment hopefully indicates that these two will continue to work through their issues in a productive way this season. I just want those two guys to work it out!
"The Pitt" Season 3 hits HBO Max in January. Let's hope fans have figured out the right way to watch the show by then.
