Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles, has launched legal proceedings against Thames Valley Police over his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to a report published by The Telegraph.
Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in February on suspicion of leaking government documents to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while serving as the UK’s special trade envoy between 2001 and 2011.
According to The Telegraph, he has asked a judge to determine whether the police action against him was lawful. The case centres on documents released by the US Department of Justice concerning Epstein.
The UK judiciary announced on Tuesday that a hearing will take place on Thursday following Mountbatten-Windsor’s request for a judge to examine the legality of the search warrants that preceded his arrest in February.
Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested over allegations that he leaked government documents to Epstein, who was found dead in his prison cell several years ago.
The legal proceedings concern the lawfulness of the police investigation and warrants. They do not establish whether Mountbatten-Windsor committed any offence.
