A 37-year-old woman was arrested in Souda, Crete, on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after police allegedly caught her photographing military facilities at the Souda Naval Base.

The incident has once again drawn the attention of Greek authorities to alleged espionage activity around military installations in Greece, following a series of similar cases involving foreign nationals reportedly collecting information about military bases.

According to reports, police caught the 37-year-old woman in the act while she was photographing military facilities at the Souda Naval Base. Officers immediately arrived at the scene and arrested her on an alleged espionage charge.

During a search, authorities found and confiscated three cameras with tripod mounts, lenses and six rolls of film, according to Zarpanews.

Investigators are expected to examine the equipment and photographic material to determine exactly what the woman photographed and whether the images relate to military installations in the area.

Authorities later released the 37-year-old woman, while the court set a regular trial date for the case.
