Antonis Remos Pays Emotional Tribute to Giorgos Mazonakis During Thessaloniki Concert

Antonis Remos became visibly emotional as he honoured the late Giorgos Mazonakis during his 30th anniversary concert in Thessaloniki, dedicating one of the singer’s best known songs to his memory.

Remos was performing at the major concert marking 30 years in Greek music at the Statue of Alexander the Great in Thessaloniki when he paused to pay tribute to his fellow artist.

Following the opening song, Remos invited the thousands in attendance to applaud musicians who had worked closely with Mazonakis.

He singled out bouzouki player Thanasis Vassilas, describing him as the musician who had been close to Mazonakis, as well as former conductor Yannis Diskos.

The atmosphere became deeply emotional as Remos spoke about the sudden loss of Mazonakis.

“Let’s send a song up there. George, you left too soon,” he said.

Remos then performed “Aniko Se Mena” (I Belong to Me), one of Mazonakis’ signature songs, dedicating the performance to the singer’s memory.

The crowd joined Remos in the tribute, turning the performance into an emotional moment of remembrance for one of Greece’s most beloved contemporary singers.

Mazonakis’ sudden death has prompted an outpouring of grief across Greece, with fellow artists, musicians and fans continuing to honour his contribution to Greek music.
