Meta has issued an apology after a video posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his official Facebook page was briefly removed from the platform on Tuesday. The company clarified that the takedown was the result of a technical error and confirmed that the content has now been restored.
In an official statement, a Meta spokesperson said, "The content was removed in error and has since been restored," putting to rest speculation surrounding the temporary disappearance of the video. The incident triggered widespread discussion online after users in India reported that the video was unavailable and displayed a message claiming it had been withheld following a legal request.
According to reports, the Centre is taking the matter seriously and is examining the circumstances that led to the temporary removal. Sources also suggest that Meta representatives could be asked to explain how the error occurred and what measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The video, originally uploaded by PM Modi on July 23, featured his address to India's Gen Z audience. During the message, the Prime Minister spoke about the government's plans to introduce stricter measures to curb examination paper leaks, including tougher legal provisions and the establishment of fast-track courts for such cases. The post had already garnered significant engagement before it was briefly taken down.
