The Golden State Warriors have officially inked head coach Steve Kerr to a multi-year contract extension, retaining the franchise’s winningest coach to lead the team through the next two seasons while remaining the NBA’s highest-paid play-caller. Following intense, postseason negotiations regarding team philosophy, offensive direction, and organizational future, the team announced the formal agreement on Tuesday.

While the team faced a challenging 2025-26 Regular Season plagued by injuries and a tenth-seed finish in the Western Conference, management and players, including team leader Stephen Curry, always preferred keeping the 60-year-old tactician.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue coaching this team,” Kerr said in a statement. “This organization has meant so much to me for the last 12 years – from ownership to our players, our staff and our fans – and it’s an incredible privilege to be a part of something so special. I’m excited to keep competing with this group.”

With 708 total career victories, including a 104–48 record in the playoffs leading to four NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022, Kerr’s return solidifies veteran leadership during a critical roster transition.

The Warriors must now aggressively navigate severe injury recoveries, including Jimmy Butler’s ACL tear and Moses Moody’s torn patellar tendon, while managing Stephen Curry’s recent knee issues.

To maximize the remaining years of the Kerr-Curry-Green era, front-office focus shifts to the offseason market, where Golden State is expected to pursue high-profile stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, or LeBron James to propel the franchise back into serious championship contention.

Offseason decisions also extend to their European core, as Latvian veteran Kristaps Porzingis enters the summer as an unrestricted free agent after finishing his extension, while the Dutch duo of Quinten Post and Malevy Leons are both headed for restricted free agency.
