Panathinaikos Athens captain Kostas Sloukas commented on the massive protests that took place in Greece on February 28 as millions took the streets asking for justice in the two-year anniversary of the Tempi train disaster that claimed the lives of 57 people.

“Today in Greece nobody cares about basketball,” Sloukas said after the EuroLeague win of Panathinaikos at ASVEL Villeurbanne. “I’m very proud I’m a Greek guy because 5-6 million Greek people took the streets. It was a special day for us. It’s two years since this very bad train accident [at Tempi]. I want to say that the entire Greece is by the side of the families [of the victims].”

Demonstrations took place in several Greek cities in memory of the tragedy that took place two years ago in the Tempi vallery. 57 people died when a passenger train collided with a freight train in the biggest rail disaster ever in the history of the country.

Earlier on 28/2, Panathinaikos center Mathias Lessort uploaded a video of the gathering in Syntagma square, Athens, expressing his support.
