by Egypt Today staff · EgyptTodayCAIRO – 26 December 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty received on Friday, 26 December, phone calls from Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali; Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan; and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Djibouti, Abdulkader Hussein Omar. The calls addressed the serious recent developments in the Horn of Africa region.
The discussions focused on developments related to Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region. The Ministers affirmed their categorical rejection and condemnation of Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, highlighting their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.
They underscored their complete rejection of any unilateral measures that could undermine Somali sovereignty or erode the foundations of stability in the country, reaffirmed their support for Somalia’s legitimate state institutions, and rejected any attempts to impose parallel entities that contravene the unity of the Somali state.
During the calls, it was further emphasized that the recognition of the independence of parts of states’ territories constitutes a dangerous precedent and a threat to international peace and security, as well as to the established principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
Respect for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states was underscored as a fundamental pillar of the stability of the international system, which must not be compromised or circumvented under any pretext. The Ministers also reiterated their rejection of any attempts to impose new faits accomplis or establish parallel entities that contradict international legitimacy and undermine prospects for security, stability, and development. In this context, they reaffirmed their categorical rejection of any plans to displace the Palestinian people outside their land, which are overwhelmingly rejected by the vast majority of countries worldwide in both form and substance.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamine Netanyahu issued a statement declaring "Israel's official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state."
Netanyahu said as quoted by Reuters that the declaration “is in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Trump.”
In March, American and Israeli officials told AP that Israel and the US and Israel discussed with three African countries of Sudan, Somalia, and brealaway region of Somalia (aka Somaliland) to deport and displace the Palestinians from occupied Palestinian territories to the African territories.
