10 dead and 32 injured as fire breaks out at hotel in popular Turkey tourist resort
by Neil Shaw · ChronicleLiveA devastating fire at a ski resort hotel in northwest Turkey has claimed the lives of at least 10 people and left 32 injured, according to officials. The blaze erupted overnight in the restaurant of a hotel located in the Kartalkaya resort in Bolu province, stated Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
In a panic, two victims tragically lost their lives after jumping from the building, Governor Abdulaziz Aydin informed the state-run Anadolu Agency. At the time of the incident, there were 234 guests residing in the hotel, Mr Aydin added.
Television footage depicted the roof and top floors of the hotel engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
According to Mr Aydin's office, 30 fire trucks and 28 ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Kartalkaya, nestled in the Koroglu mountains approximately 300 kilometres (186 miles) east of Istanbul, is a popular ski destination.
The fire broke out during the school semester break, a period when the region's hotels are typically full. As a precautionary measure, other hotels at the resort were evacuated, reports Wales Online.
