All the Met Office weather warnings for snow in force this weekend, and where and when they apply

Winter weather conditions are expected to affect parts of England and Scotland in the coming days, and yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for snow and ice.

Temperatures will take a plunge in 28 of Scotland's 32 council areas and some areas are expecting to see around 20cm of snow falling.

Here's when and where the various warnings apply:

Saturday 16th - There are no warnings in place on Saturday.

Sunday 17th - A yellow warning comes into effect for northern Scotland from 4pm, lasting till 11am on Monday. The warning is for snow and ice, and is in place for Aberdeenshire, Moray, Western Isles, Highland, Orkney, and Shetland.

Monday 18th - This is the day the warnings cover the widest UK geography. The yellow warning for snow and ice comes into effect from 10am and lasts for 24 hours.

The regions and local authorities affected are:

In North East England: Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland

In Yorkshire & Humber: North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, York

In North West England: Cumbria, Lancashire

In southern Scotland, Strathclyde, Lothian and Borders: Dumfries and Galloway, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian Council, Scottish Borders, West Lothian, Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire

The Met Office is warning drivers to have nine items with them if they need to travel through the wintry conditions. They are: warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger. Drivers are being told to plan their journeys ahead to ensure they have plenty of time.
