Newcastle United shock Marcus Rashford transfer verdict - 'That would be dangerous'
by Stuart Jamieson · ChronicleLiveArsenal legend Ian Wright feels out-of-favour Manchester United star is exactly the sort of player Newcastle United should be signing int the summer transfer window.
The former England international is currently impressing on loan at Aston Villa after leaving Old Trafford in the January window. He struggled for gametime under Ruben Amorim, but the temporary switch to Villa Park appears to have rekindled his career. However, his long-term future remains uncertain with talk of a big move in the summer.
Reports suggest he is unlikely to return to Man United, and there are suggestions that he doesn't see his future at Aston Villa despite impressing under Unai Emery. He is thought to prefer not to go to London, and the idea was put to Wright on his Ringer FC podcast that he should sign for Newcastle.
“It’s the kind of signing Newcastle should be making,” Wright said. “That would be amazing. That would be dangerous. Rashford at Newcastle? Yeah. That would be really good. I really like that for Rashford. Rashford at Newcastle can be dangerous.”
There is the small matter of Rashford's wages, of course, with the winger said to be on around £325,000-a-week. Newcastle also already have Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes as left-wing options, and while all three can play across the front line, United are thought to be targetting right-sided forward options this summer.
Rashford spoke of being ready for a new challenge before moving to Villa, and would look to join a side in the Champions League next season. That could mean a move abroad, but for now he is keeping his counsel on his situation at Man United.
"For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," Rashford said in December. "When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.
"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."
