Sir Rod Stewart to play Glastonbury legends slot in 2025

Sir Rod Stewart has been confirmed to play the Glastonbury legends slot in 2025.

Taking to Instagram, Glastonbury festival organiser Emily Eavis expressed her excitement: "Bringing Sir Rod Stewart back for the Sunday afternoon slot on the Pyramid stage is everything we could wish for." Celebrating the upcoming event, she added, "What a way to bow out with the final legends slot before we take a fallow year. We cannot wait! ."

A seasoned performer, Sir Rod headlined the renowned festival back in 2002, delivering an unforgettable closing on Sunday night. It comes after Canadian star Shania Twain wowed the crowds this year in the much-loved Sunday afternoon legends slot with her chart-topping classics such as Man! I Feel Like A Woman! and That Don't Impress Me Much.

The legends slot has previously seen an array of music icons like Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Diana Ross, Kylie Minogue, and Dame Shirley Bassey. Adding to this year's musical spectacles were Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and the American sensation Sza, who all took top billing on the Pyramid Stage.

Sir Rod has the honour of being the first name announced for the next festival. Just last week, he revealed his intent to halt "large-scale world tours" but dismissed any notion of retiring.

Still brimming with energy, the soon-to-be octogenarian said in an Instagram post: "This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire". He proudly claimed, "I love what I do, and I do what I love. I'm fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 metres in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79."

"I'd like to move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour the year after next smaller venues and more intimacy. But then again, I may not.." The update concluded with the enigmatic sign-off, "The Ambiguous Sir Rod Stewart".

Some of the most significant hits from his extraordinary six-decade career are tunes like 'You're In My Heart', 'Hot Legs', 'Tonight's The Night' and 'Maggie May'. Inducted into the US Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Sir Rod also received knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours list back in 2016.
