Liverpool could be without several players for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United after an update from their head coach, Arne Slot.

The Magpies will face the Merseyside club in the Wembley Stadium showpiece on Sunday afternoon as they aim to end their long wait for a major trophy. Newcastle go into the game having claimed a 1-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Monday night.

Just 24 hours later, Liverpool were in action themselves as they faced Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The Reds lost 1-0 in the second leg of the last-16 tie to draw 1-1 on aggregate, before losing 4-1 in the subsequent penalty shootout.

As well as playing an extra 30 minutes on top of the regulation 90, Liverpool were also handed two potential injury scares going into the clash against Newcastle. Trent Alexander-Arnold was withdrawn in the second half before Ibrahima Konate was substituted midway through extra time, as both players hobbled off the field of play.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle will also have some players unavailable to face Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday. Lewis Hall and Sven Botman are sidelined with injuries, while Anthony Gordon remains unavailable through suspension.

Alexander-Arnold and Konate are not the only injury concerns for the Merseyside outfit going into the clash against Newcastle. Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and Tyler Morton are already sidelined with injuries, none of which are expected to recover in time to feature in Sunday's final against United.

Slot was asked about Alexander-Arnold and Konate ahead of the clash against Newcastle in Sunday's final. The Liverpool boss gave an optimistic update on Konate before going on to claim that Alexander-Arnold is likely to miss the final against the Magpies.

"I have to ask but for me Ibou [Konate] was more that he was tired than it was an injury," Slot told reporters on Tuesday night. "With Trent [Alexander-Arnold], he had to come off. That’s never a good sign.

"And from what I heard from people that saw the images or how he got injured, that didn’t look very good. So I would be surprised if he is available for Sunday."
