Manchester City move quickly and make renewal offer – WC could influence Etihad future

by · Sport Witness

Manchester City‘s Joško Gvardiol isn’t rushing to make a decision on his Etihad future because of Real Madrid’s interest.

Over the past weeks, there’s been regular claims of Real Madrid’s interest in the defender.

On May 18th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of the Manchester City star’s agent offering him to Real Madrid.

New manager José Mourinho has identified the 24-year-old as one of his favourite targets for this summer.

On Thursday, we relayed news of Barcelona making a concrete offer to the defender, but Manchester City are refusing to entertain offers.

Manchester City renewal put on hold

Friday’s edition of AS has a detailed report on the 24-year-old and what could happen to his future this summer.

José Mourinho considers Joško Gvardiol one of the key signings for his new project at the Spanish capital. He can operate as a centre-back and a left-back, and his versatility is key for the manager.

However, it won’t be easy for Real Madrid to sign him because of the Premier League side. Despite an injury in January that kept him out until May, Manchester City continue to rate him highly.

After the end of the season, the Etihad club moved quickly and made a renewal offer.

The former RB Leipzig man has put the renewal on hold and asked Manchester City for time to analyse the situation. The player took this step as he’s well aware of Real Madrid’s interest.

Former Real Madrid star Luka Modrić is part of Croatia’s squad for the World Cup.

AS claim the midfielder is ‘surely telling him how signing for Real Madrid changed his life’. Gvardiol, therefore, doesn’t want to rush when deciding his future this summer.

The Citizens aren’t a selling club, and this is another concern for the Spanish giants.

World Cup could influence Manchester City future

During the World Cup, Luka Modrić could convince his compatriot to join Real Madrid. In short, the tournament can end up influencing his future.

There’s unlikely to be developments until Croatia finish their World Cup campaign.

The defender’s contract lasts until 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €70m.
