Nottingham Forest offer incoming ‘in the next few hours’ – Over €15m required for next Huijsen
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessJan Ziolkowski is among the candidates who can leave AS Roma and Nottingham Forest are now in the picture to sign him.
The defender joined the Italian club for €6.6m in Legia Warsaw. He was seen as a young prospect who will grow through the campaign and the Poland international impressed.
He filled in for Evan Ndicka’s during AFCON, playing 18 times in Serie A and also featuring four times in the Europa League. However, his time in Rome could already be up.
SportWitness have covered West Ham’s interest in the defender but Nottingham Forest are now firmly in the picture.
Offer incoming
Corriere dello Sport report the centre-back isn’t quite satisfied with the playing time he got during the last campaign. At the same time, Roma need to earn capital gain due to FFP worries by the end of June. This makes Ziolkowski a key candidate to depart.
Nottingham Forest are believed to be serious about his signature. Several scouts from England have been monitoring the 20-year-old in the last few months, with Roma likely to accept anything over €15m to sell him.
The newspaper make it clear that Ziolkowski’s profile suits English football and would be ideal signing for the likes of Forest.
Nottingham Forest’s offer is expected to arrive ‘in the next few hours’, with Roma sensing this as a big chance. Vitor Pereira’s side have the Pole on their shortlist, with the player also compared to Dean Huijsen due to his tall frame and ability on the ball.
Deal can prove risky
Ziolkowski has obvious physical qualities and these were seen across the campaign. Gian Piero Gasperini’s system isn’t easy to adapt to but the youngster did it quite well.
Despite this, a move to England and Nottingham Forest can be quite a jump. He might not even be a regular at the club, which won’t help his development either.
As things stand, Ziolkowski demands more game time and should ideally a club where he plays regularly.
Nottingham Forest may not offer that. Even if Pereira’s side won’t have to pay such a hight transfer fee, it may not help progress the player’s career in the long term.
