Manchester City ‘very optimistic’ of renewing player’s contract – Key point needs sorting out in ‘coming weeks’

Erling Haaland has been the standout player for Manchester City since joining them from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

The striker has managed 105 goals and 14 assists from 114 games. His deal lasts until 2027, and the club want to offer him an extension.

Last week, Sport stated Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano had travelled to Norway for the 24-year-old’s renewal. It was also reported the Premier League winners want to get rid of his high release clause.

Wednesday’s edition of Sport brings the latest on the English champions’ efforts to renew Haaland’s contract.

It’s claimed Pep Guardiola’s side and the Norway international’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, are ‘still negotiating’ to extend his deal until 2029. The former are ‘very optimistic’ and believe there won’t be many problems.

The manager’s deal lasts until 2025, and Sport state irrespective of his long-term future, Manchester City are determined to retain Haaland. The latest claims from the UK have stated Guardiola will soon sign a one-year extension.
