by · Sport Witness

Anthony Gordon will undergo a medical this afternoon before his move to Barcelona from Newcastle United is finalised in the next few hours.

Sport report on the Newcastle forward’s arrival in Barcelona this afternoon after delays to his flight from the UK.

Already in Barcelona

The newspaper reports that Anthony Gordon is already in Barcelona preparing for a medical this afternoon. That is scheduled for 4pm at a hospital in Barcelona. He will then sign a five-year contract at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona had planned for Gordon to arrive at 2pm, but the plane flying him from Newcastle ended up delayed by an hour and a half.

He was therefore met by crowds as El Prat Josep Tarradelles airport, where he spoke his first, unofficial words as a Barcelona player. “I am very happy,” he told the press while greeting them from a distance.

According to Sport, Gordon has a medical scheduled at 4pm in Barcelona. That is a definitive step towards the deal being completed. He’ll then sign a five-year deal and become Barcelona’s first signing of the summer.

€70m transfer deal

Barcelona and Newcastle have completed a deal worth around €70m fixed with €10m in variables. The deal was reached following ‘intense negotiations’ led by Barcelona’s sporting director Deco.

He closed the signing during an ‘express trip’ to London during which he laid the foundations of the agreement. It was then finalised on Wednesday.

Barca’s sporting management have accelerated during the last two days to get the deal done before the World Cup. They wanted to avoid any potential complications during the tournament.

Anthony Gordon gave them his preference, despite also having offers on the table from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Unless there are any last minute, surprise complications, the official announcement for the transfer should arrive in the next few hours, once the 25-year-old has completed his medical and signed the relevant documents.
