Rangers move for Borussia Monchengladbach player – Released from training for transfer
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessBorussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara is a target for Danny Röhl’s Rangers this month.
That’s according to Fussball Europa. They report that Cvancara could be heading to Ibrox before the end of the January transfer window.
Cvancara has been free to find a new club for two weeks. Gladbach released him from all activities to allow him to do so, and secure a new home at least until the end of the season. That search may now be coming to an end, with Rangers out in the lead.
The 25-year-old no longer plays a significant role for the German side. He was left out of their first Bundesliga matches of 2026 entirely. That’s further proof that he’s free to go where he likes.
He’s been released from training and match activities so he can use his time to intensify his search for a new club. According to Fussball Europa’s information, a ‘strong lead’ now points to Rangers.
Rangers would take Tomas Cvancara for rest of season
Danny Röhl’s side reportedly want to loan him until the end of the season. That would include an option to make his move to Ibrox permanent. The Rangers deal has not yet been finalised.
Rangers have competition in the form of Hellas Verona and Cremonese from Serie A, but it’s made clear they’re out in front. Gladbach demanded a fee of €6-7m last summer but it’s unclear what they would want now.
They paid €10m for him two and a half years ago but now want rid. Rangers could provide them with the option, albeit on loan initially.
The Scottish Premiership club signed Andreas Skov Olsen from the Bundesliga in recent days, with the Denmark international arriving from VfL Wolfsburg. Rangers appear to be looking towards German football again, and this time a Czech international.
