Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez’s injury in the 4-1 defeat to has ‘set off the alarms’ for Argentina ahead of the next international break.

That’s according to Bolavip Argentina, who do however report that initial signs from the goalkeeper are ‘encouraging’.

They report that the Aston Villa start ‘set off the alarms’ for Lionel Scaloni and his team as he had to be replaced at half-time in the eventual 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

He’s suffered an injury to his hamstring and images of him ‘immediately caused concern’ at the Argentinian Football Association as they’re already drawing up the list of players for the clashes against Uruguay and Brazil next month.

They had a nervous 24 hours waiting for updates but despite Martinez asking to be substituted because of the pain he felt, the decision to do so was more of a precautionary measure than anything else according to reports in England.

Unai Emery backed that up somewhat in his post-match press conference, insisting that the problem was something they were aware of ahead of the game. They are still waiting on an official medical report, though.

As are Argentina’s staff, who are ‘waiting for the details of the goalkeeper’s condition before making a decision on his inclusion.

That initial injury and his departure at half-time did set off the alarm bells, though, even if initial reports are encouraging.
