€25m transfer from Southampton needs to be funded via a sale
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessSouthampton midfielder Caspar Jander is a target for VfB Stuttgart in the summer, but only if they can secure a sale first.
BILD report that the 23-year-old is on Stuttgart’s list, but they need to sell someone before they can move for the midfielder.
Caspar Jander has been earning rave reviews for his performances with Southampton this season.
Impressing at Southampton
He joined the Saints in a €12m deal from 1.FC Nuremberg last summer and has been a mainstay of the team ever since. He has particularly impressed as Southampton have flourished under Tonda Eckert’s leadership.
The recent defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals was another display of his talents and it appears clubs are watching.
BILD report that it is ‘quite possible’ that the midfielder will be playing in Germany again next season. He is ‘particularly sought after’ by VfB Stuttgart.
But the problem for them is his €25m asking price. That’s a figure the German side could only afford if VfB were to sell a midfielder first. The newspaper does not speculate who that could be.
Sale required
The obvious candidate would be Angelo Stiller. He’s a rising star in Germany and has admirers, such as Manchester United. He’s also rated at €45m, which would provide the funds for a move for Jander.
The Southampton star is currently valued at €12m. But it’s BILD’s belief that they’d want at least double that to sanction a sale.
Any consideration would surely depend on what division they’re playing in though. With a potential promotion to the Premier League on the line, there’s not much chance Southampton are considering selling Jander at this moment in time.
Even then, it seems they want a considerable fee to do so. A fee that Stuttgart, at this point, can’t afford unless they secure a major sale of their own first.
