‘No less than €50m’ – Tottenham and Newcastle United have transfer chance
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessManchester City have been pursuing a move for Marco Palestra but Tottenham and Newcastle United also have a chance at his signature.
The wing-back was one of the brightest lights in Serie A during the 2025/26 campaign. He was loaned out by Atalanta to Cagliari and this move led to him making his debut for the Italian national earlier this year.
Palestra impressed with dual-footed ability, versatility and physical attributes. Sport Witness have covered how Enzo Maresca would like him at Manchester City, with Inter Milan also pursuing a move.
Increasingly, it looks like a move to England is likelier for Palestra than a stay in Italy.
Newcastle United and Tottenham are also in the race for the 21-year-old.
Bidding war on the way
Tuttomercatoweb look at the Italian’s recent comments about his future. Palestra spoke to the media from the Azzurri’s training camp on Monday, confirming his desire to join a bigger club.
He said: “I’m ready to make the leap to a big club. This first season as a starter has given me confidence and self-assurance.”
TMW use that to suggest that an international bidding war is on the way for the youngster. Newcastle United have been keeping a close eye on Palestra, as ‘several sirens’ have been sounded from the Premier League.
It is believed Tottenham can also come forward for the talent, having signed multiple players from Italy in recent years.
Price tag also clear
Alfredo Pedulla has more, stating that about five to six English clubs are in the mix for Palestra. ‘Excellent relations’ between all the parties can lead to a switch to the Premier League.
Inter remain in the running but Atalanta’s valuation can blow them away. They want ‘no less than €50m’ for the wing-back and this will be much more affordable for the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle United and Manchester City.
The journalist feels the price tag will make all the difference. In the meantime, Palestra’s entourage is also making internal evaluations about which club suits him best.
Palestra could be a big signing
As things stand, the Atalanta player is one of the best young players in the world. He has a rare profile and due to his physical attributes, he won’t have issues settling into the Premier League.
Tottenham could yet lose Pedro Porro in the summer, and could do with another quality full-back option. Palestra would be an excellent move, especially as he can play on either flank.
At Newcastle United, Palestra would be the long-term successor for Kieran Trippier, since Tino Livramento will attract suitors in the summer.
With Lewis Hall’s future also in doubt, the Atalanta man would be an able replacement.
