Aston Vill have ‘assured’ Argentina that Emiliano Martinez will not be absent in the next international break after leaving the loss to Crystal Palace at half-time.

That’s according to Rio Negro, who cover the goalkeeper today after he set alarm bells ringing in his national team.

Martinez was replaced at half-time in Aston Villa’s recent 4-1 loss to Crystal Palace after complaining of an injury.

That set alarm bells of for the Argentine national team, who were naturally concerned they would be without one of their star men and starting goalkeeper for the international break coming in March.

However, Aston Villa have now ‘ruled out any serious problem’ for the goalkeeper after previously insisting he was just taken off as a precaution.

Martinez was feeling a discomfort in his hamstring, with Unai Emery confirming he’d reported it in training the previous day but has not suffered anything more significant. Villa intend for him to undergo more tests, but the first evaluations are positive, and he is likely to be available for Argentina in March.

They take on Uruguay and Brazil in qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and want to ensure they’re number one is fit for two such crucial games.
