Manchester United still set to complete signing after medical delay – New details explain Ederson wait

by · Sport Witness

Manchester United are still expected to complete the signing of Ederson from Atalanta, and fresh details from Brazil have explained why the deal has not yet been made official.

The midfielder was due to undergo his medical during his summer break before Carlo Ancelotti unexpectedly called him into Brazil’s World Cup squad. According to ESPN Brazil journalist André Hernan, the transfer remains firmly on track despite the disruption.

Hernan explained that Ederson already had medical examinations scheduled with Manchester United before Brazil’s emergency call-up arrived.

The midfielder had been attending a friend’s wedding in Brazil when he received the news, creating a frantic rush to join the national team.

“He didn’t even have his passport, suitcase or boots with him,” Hernan explained, describing how Ederson had to quickly gather everything before travelling to the United States.

Medicals interrupted by Brazil call-up

Rather than completing the full medical process with Manchester United as originally planned, Ederson travelled directly to join Brazil.

According to Hernan, the midfielder instead underwent only limited medical checks, effectively giving United enough reassurance about his physical condition before the tournament.

The journalist compared it to leaving a guarantee with the Premier League club, explaining that Ederson was able to show he was fit enough to receive a Brazil call-up and compete at the World Cup while postponing the full examination until after his international commitments.

Now, with Brazil’s campaign over, Hernan says Ederson is travelling to London to complete the remaining medical tests before signing his Manchester United contract.

No concerns over transfer

Hernan was also keen to dismiss suggestions that the deal had encountered problems. He insisted nothing has changed regarding Manchester United’s pursuit, despite the Andrey Santos deal. “They are two completely separate deals”, he stressed.

Instead, the focus is simply on completing the remaining formalities. Manchester United are now waiting for Ederson to undergo his full medical examination before finalising the move.

That should complete a transfer which, according to reports in Brazil over recent days, is worth around €48m (£40.5m) including achievable bonuses.

The Brazil call-up may have forced a change of plans, but Hernan’s latest information suggests it never threatened the move itself. If anything, it merely delayed the final paperwork before Ederson’s expected arrival at Old Trafford.
