Barcelona want to sign Chelsea star – Internal discussions ongoing for past few days
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessBarcelona are keen on bringing Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella back to the Camp Nou in the summer.
The left-back is a product of Barcelona’s famous academy, La Masia, but failed to cement a place in their first team.
Last November, he starred in Chelsea’s 3-0 Champions League win over Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.
At that time, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of Barca’s disappointment over not holding on to the 27-year-old.
Later that month, the Spain international said he’s unhappy he didn’t get opportunities at Barcelona. He ended up leaving after making only one first team appearance.
Brighton & Hove Albion brought him to the Premier League in 2021 and sold him to the Blues a year later.
After overcoming initial struggles, the fullback has established himself as one of the key players at Chelsea. He won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup with the west London club in 2025.
Talks about Chelsea star at Barcelona
Marc Cucurella is now back on Barcelona’s agenda for the summer. That’s according to El Chiringuito, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a report from journalist Jota Jordi.
El Chiringuito, via Mega, provide more updates from the journalist on the La Liga winners’ interest in the Chelsea player.
He says the Catalan club ‘want to sign’ the former Brighton & Hove Albion man to further improve their defence.
“There’s a player who knows Barça well, he came through their youth academy, and that’s Cucurella. They’ve been talking about the player in the offices for a couple of days now,” he said.
Hansi Flick has Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martín as the two left-backs at his disposal. The former has already been linked to a few Premier League sides. If Balde were to leave, the Spanish giants can use the funds to try and sign Cucurella.
Our take: Blues unlikely to sanction sale
Marc Cucurella will have two years left on his contract after this season and Transfermarkt value him at €50m.
Earlier this month, Liam Rosenior was shown the exit door, and a permanent manager will be appointed for next season. The incoming coach would have a say if Barcelona were to make an approach for their former player.
Either way, it won’t be easy for the Catalan club to convince Chelsea to sell him.
