€80m+ offer submitted for Manchester City player
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessManchester City are refusing to let Joško Gvardiol leave this summer.
The Croatia international has been attracting interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
On May 18th, we relayed news that the Manchester City star’s agent had offered him to Real Madrid.
Later that month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Barcelona want the 24-year-old.
Earlier this week, José Mourinho identified both him and Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori as his favourite defensive targets for Real Madrid.
Barcelona’s concrete offer for Manchester City star
The La Liga winners have decided to make further advances to sign Joško Gvardiol.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who state Bayern Munich are now behind in the transfer race.
Hansi Flick’s side have made a strong push by tabling a concrete contract offer to the player, without the report providing further details.
Barcelona are also offering a fee over €80m, but Manchester City aren’t keen.
The Etihad club are currently blocking any offers for the centre-back, who can also operate as a left-back. Their focus is to extend his contract and the latest claims from Croatia stated Manchester City are preparing a renewal offer.
FT state the English club are firm with their stance. Even if the player doesn’t sign an extension, the FA Cup winners want to retain him at least until 2027.
For now, Manchester City clearly have the upper hand. The situation may only change if the defender were to push for a summer transfer.
Gvardiol remains focused on Croatia’s preparations for the World Cup and no developments are expected anytime soon. His former club, RB Leipzig, would also keep a close watch on his situation as they will benefit from his sale.
Contract, value and agent info
The Manchester City star has a contract until 2028 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €70m.
The highest value was €80m in October 2023, just months after his move to England. Agent Marjan Sisic represents Joško Gvardiol.
