Aston Villa willing to pay reasonable fee for signing – Unai Emery driving transfer
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessAston Villa are keeping an eye on Marcus Rashford’s situation at Barcelona.
The England international spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Aston Villa.
Unai Emery and the Villans were keen on extending his stay last summer. Barca sporting director Deco confirmed in February that the forward rejected the Europa League winners to join Barcelona.
In July 2025, the Manchester United player joined the La Liga winners on loan with a €30m purchase option.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Barca have until June 15th to communicate their decision. Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur could pounce if the Catalan club decide not to retain him.
The latest claims from Germany and the UK state Bayern Munich are looking at the 28-year-old, after missing out on Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.
Aston Villa have to wait
Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo relays claims of Bayern Munich and provides their own updates on Barcelona and Aston Villa.
The England international finished this season with 14 goals and 14 assists, but that isn’t enough for the Spanish giants to make the final decision.
Mundo state the Manchester United man hasn’t received a definitive answer from Barca yet.
At the end of the season, Hansi Flick told the attacker he’s been happy with his performances. Since then, Barca made no contact with Marcus Rashford. In short, it’s unclear whether he will stay at the Camp Nou.
Anthony Gordon’s signing reduces his compatriot’s chances of staying.
Behind the scenes, Aston Villa are keeping a close watch, mainly because of Unai Emery.
The manager admires Rashford and the Villans would be willing to pay a reasonable fee to buy him. There’s no mention of a figure but €30m would be enough.
Movements expected around Rashford
It’s unclear where he will play next season but what’s certain is that the player has no future at Manchester United.
Barcelona have less than a week to confirm their decision on Marcus Rashford. If they fail to accept conditions set by the Red Devils, he has to find a new club this summer.
Aston Villa could be an option while other clubs, like Bayern Munich, can try to sign the England international.
