Brentford trying to push Everton and Newcastle United aside in transfer tussle

by · Sport Witness

Everton and Newcastle United have emerged as suitors for Mateo Pellegrino but Brentford are ready to race ahead of them.

The striker joined Parma from Velez Sarsfield in January 2025 and since then, he has become a reliable goalscorer for them. He has found the net 15 times in all competitions for the Italian side, scoring nine times in the 2025/26 campaign alone.

While those around terrific numbers, Parma play in a rather defence-first system under Carlos Cuesta.

This week, Sport Witness have covered Everton and Newcastle United having the striker on their shortlist. His profile appeals to them, amidst belief he could suit Premier League football.

Updates are now emerging and Brentford could be leading the race for the tall forward.

Parma could be open to sale

ParmaToday report today that Pellegrino’s future could indeed lie in the Premier League.

Newcastle United and Everton have ‘gathered information’ about him and are monitoring his situation.

In the meantime, Brentford have intensified their move. They could make a formal approach soon, which will leave the Toffees and Magpies behind unless they do the same.

That could be what Parma want too. This is because the outlet note that the Crociati are ‘closely monitoring developments’ on this front. No advanced negotiations have taken place but the very mention of that suggests they can be open to a sale.

The striker is one of the most attractive players in their squad. If the right offer is made, he will be sold.

Parma likely raising price

It feels like Cuesta’s side might have to make one major sale this summer. They moved on from Giovanni Leoni last summer, leaving Pellegrino, Zion Suzuki and Mariano Troilo the candidates to leave this year.

That is why all three have been linked with moves to England. This allows Parma to raise their prices and put them out of reach for Italian clubs.

However, Newcastle United and Everton could do with a reliable back-up striker. Pellegrino’s profile makes him fit for a role like that, especially as the two clubs can push for Europe next season.
