First offer for Sheffield United player – Full effort to secure transfer

by · Sport Witness

Nils Zatterström joined Sheffield United from Malmo last year for €3m but hasn’t played even once for the Blades.

After the centre-back featured in Champions League qualifiers earlier in the campaign, he has only been on the bench in the Championship. That has been the case only three times this season, with game time unlikely to come anytime soon.

The Swede can now leave Sheffield United in January and possibly move to Italy.

La Repubblica report that Zatterström is at the top of Genoa’s wish-list for this month.

The Rossoblu want a defender and have already approached Sheffield United with a formal offer. The newspaper believe that the two parties are close to finding an agreement, with the Serie A side attracted by the player’s European experience.

They also rate his ability on the ball, making him a good fit for Daniele De Rossi’s system.

Gazzetta dello Sport take a further look at Genoa’s interest in the 20-year-old.

Sheffield United player Nils Zatterström could be moving to Genoa

Italy’s pink daily state the Swede will likely join on an initial loan deal. Genoa can also offer an option to buy, with the swoop seen as a difficult one for the Liguria club.

Signing the Sheffield United player won’t be an ‘easy negotiation’, even if progress is being made.

Zatterström is a player who doesn’t just fix the current problems but is also an attractive prospect for the future. His lack of game time this season is seen as a major opportunity that Genoa simply can’t miss. Without that aspect, there wouldn’t be hope of getting him from Sheffield United, given the club’s limited finances.

The left footed defender’s current deal with the Blades runs out in 2029. That length of contract provides plenty of room for a loan deal, and Genoa are pursuing this one seriously.
