The long-awaited trailer for Stranger Things’ fifth and final season has arrived, promising a showdown between the town of Hawkins and the evil Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

Posted today (July 16) on Netflix’s social channels, the clip is an exciting montage of moments from the forthcoming season, as the cast of familiar faces prepare to fight the demon and kill him for good. Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) is seen grieving Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), whose grave has been defaced as the town believes he is a murderer.

We also get a first look at sci-fi legend Linda Hamilton, who joins the season playing a character named Dr. Kay. Watch the full trailer below.

The official synopsis reads: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding”.

“As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time”.

The preview was posted nine years exactly since the series’ debut. Stranger Things 5 premieres on Netflix with Volume one (Episodes 1-4) on November 26, followed by Volume two (Episodes 5-7) on Christmas Day, and the Finale (Episode 8) on New Year’s Eve.

Various cast members have shared their feelings on leaving the show after such a long time. David Harbour revealed last month that he was glad the series is ending; while Caleb McLaughlin reflected that he felt “blessed” to be part of it. Late last year, Millie Bobby Brown was filmed breaking down as she read her goodbye letter to the cast and crew.

Elsewhere, one of the show’s creators, Ross Duffer, promised an “emotional, thrilling” season, saying: “The goal is to hit hard”.
