When does ‘The Rings Of Power’ season three come out?

The show's second season came to an end in October

With a huge budget and an even bigger legacy to live up to, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power is arguably Amazon’s biggest TV gamble.

Created by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the prequel series is set thousands of years before J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord Of The Rings trilogy and depicts the rise of Sauron in Middle-earth’s Second Age.

The show’s cast is led by Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, alongside Lenny Henry, Sara Zwangobani, Robert Aramayo, Benjamin Walker, Charles Edwards, Daniel Weyman, and Charlie Vickers.

After the first season debuted in 2022, the show’s second season came to an end in October 2024 after eight episodes.

At the time of writing, Amazon has not officially announced a third season. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, however, have said they are ‘working on it’ internally.

“All we can say is, we’re working on it,” McKay told The Hollywood Reporter when asked about a third season in August 2024. “We’re cooking. Let us cook!”

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, executive producer Charlotte Brändström also strongly hinted a third season is inevitable. “I can’t say much about season three, but I got think there’ll be good news soon,’ she said.

When could season 3 be released?

If the production schedule mirrors the gap between the first two seasons, it’s likely we could see a third season in August or September 2026.

The first season debuted on September 1, 2022, while the second season came out two years later almost exactly, on August 29, 2024.

This will depend, however, on when (and if) Amazon renews The Rings Of Power, although it looks very likely the show will continue for another season at least.
