Jaecoo’s First Fully Electric, Pet-Friendly Vehicle Makes Its Debut At Oh My Meow! Expo

The Omoda | Jaecoo J5 EV is designed for families and pet owners in mind.

Something most pet owners might relate to is that their car seats are frequently damaged by furkids when they’re being transported.

Most of the time, paw-rents would put their pets in a pet carrier when taking them to the vet or on short drives. Other times, some pet owners let their precious fur babies just sit freely in the car.

This could sometimes lead to car seats being scratched, accidentally or unintentionally, by untrimmed claws.

When we got the invitation by Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia to check out the latest vehicle in its lineup — the fully electric Jaecoo J5 — we wondered why it was being debuted in the middle of a cat expo in the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MVEC).

As soon as we reached the booth, we were greeted by the electric vehicle (EV), which was adorably decorated to look like a cat.

A staff member there told us that the Jaecoo J5 EV features a scratch-resistant interior, which makes it purr-fect for pets who love to go on drives without being confined to a carrier.

Besides being scratch-resistant, the seats’ material also makes it easy to clean any “spills” made by pets.

What’s under the Jaecoo J5 EV’s hood?

Designed for urban explorers, young families and pet lovers, the J5 EV is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 155 kW and 288 Nm of torque, delivering smooth and responsive performance for both daily commuting and weekend adventures.

Meanwhile, Iits 58.9 kWh CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery provides a driving range of up to 402km. Designed for everyday convenience, the battery supports DC fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes, allowing drivers to spend less time charging and more time exploring.

The J5 EV also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, enabling owners to power compatible external electrical devices directly from the vehicle, making it an ideal companion for camping trips, outdoor activities and active lifestyles.

Beyond its electrified powertrain, Its spacious cabin provides greater comfort for both passengers and their furry companions, while practical storage solutions, generous luggage capacity and thoughtful interior packaging ensure every journey is comfortable and convenient.

The 35-litre front trunk and 480-litre rear cargo compartment will store the entire family’s luggage as well as all your pet’s things. Complementing this are 35 smart storage spaces strategically integrated throughout the cabin, ensuring every item you bring has its place.
